In demand across the globe, the Russian-born American conductor Yakov Kreizberg has conducted most of the major orchestras throughout Europe, North America and Asia. He currently holds the posts of Chief Conductor and Artistic Advisor of the Netherlands Philharmonic and Netherlands Chamber Orchestras, and Principal Guest Conductor of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. He has previously held the posts of Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and Generalmusikdirektor of the Komische Oper Berlin. In January 2008 he was nominated Artistic Director to the Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra to which he will be Music Director from September 2009. Eminent engagements have included the Berlin Philharmonic, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Symphonie Orchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, Staatskapelle Dresden, Leipzig Gewandhaus, WDR Kšln and Munich Philharmonic Orchestra. Engagements in the UK have included theBBC Symphony, the London Symphony, the Philharmonia Orchestra, and he is a frequent guest at London's BBC Proms. Within North America, Yakov Kreizberg has worked with prestigious orchestras including the Philadelphia Orchestra (with whom he toured the Americas), Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, the Minnesota and Cincinnati Symphonies and the Los Angeles and New York Philharmonic Orchestras. In Asia he has worked with the NHK, Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestras as well as the Pacific Festival in Sapporo. Forthcoming plans include tours of Germany and Spain with the Netherlands Philharmonic, and engagements with the Orchestre de Paris, Orchestre National de France, London Philharmonic, St Louis Symphony and National Symphony Orchestra Washington. He will be Artist in Residence for the opening of the Alte Oper FrankfurtŐs 2008/09 season and this is the first time a conductor has been presented with this honour. In addition to symphonic concerts, Yakov Kreizberg will present several chamber concerts as part of his residency. After many years of absence from performing the piano, Mr Kreizberg has resumed giving recitals and will be performing with Julia Fischer and Daniel Mueller-Schott. As well as having recorded for Decca and Oehms Classics, Yakov Kreizberg's collaboration with Pentatone Classics and the Netherlands Philharmonic and Chamber Orchestras has been highly successful. His many recordings for Pentatone have included symphonies by Shostakovich (5 and 9) and Dvorak (8 and 9), a number of discs with Julia Fischer, whilst his first recording with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra - Bruckner's Symphony No.7 - was nominated in two categories (including best orchestral performance) for the 2006 Grammy Awards. On the Orfeo label, Mr Kreizberg's recording with Daniel Mueller-Schott of Shostakovich's cello concerti will be released this autumn. As an opera conductor, he established a fine reputation at the Komische Oper in a wide variety of repertoire. Elsewhere, he has conducted for Lyric Opera of Chicago, Canadian Opera, English National Opera, Bregenz Festival, Glyndebourne Festival Opera and in 2006 made his debut at the Royal Opera House with Macbeth. He has recently conducted Iolanthe with Netherlands Opera and will return in 2007/08 for Katya Kabanova In October 2007, Mr Kreizberg was bestowed the 'Ehrenkreuz' by the Austrian president in recognition of his achievement in the Arts. Mr Kreizberg actively encourages and dedicates time to inspiring youth in music and for a number of years he was Music Director of the Jeunesses Musicales World Orchestra. Born in St Petersburg, Yakov Kreizberg studied conducting privately with the legendary Ilya A. Musin, before emigrating to the United States in 1976. There he was awarded conducting fellowships at Tanglewood with Bernstein, Ozawa and Leinsdorf, and at the Los Angeles Philharmonic Institute with Michael Tilson Thomas. In 1986 he won first prize in the Leopold Stokowski Conducting Competition in New York.
